Kinematics Calculator ReadMe
General Information
This calculator allows the kinematic calculation of electron scattering reactions. In the first particle dropdown list the target nucleus can be chosen, the two other particles define the final state. If desired, a further decay of the right hand side particle is computed by selecting the "second decay or break-up" checkbox. Analogously, the respective second final state particle can have a third decay.
Further information on how the virtual photon is computed can be found here.
Please notice
• the electron mass is neglected
• the particle plot is stretched to fit the frame
Variables
E: energy of incoming electron
Q²: momentum transfer
W: CMS energy
θ: decay angle of the excited system
φ: out of plane angle
Eex.: custom additional energy added to the second final state particle. Meant for excited states.
Usage
Depending on the web-browser, a calculation will take place by hitting the Go button or by a change of the input parameters. The parameters can be raised or lowered by the up and down arrow keys.
C resets the variables to their initial value. Save allows to download a txt file which contains a summary of the chosen kinematic and a checkpoint of the calculator. By clicking Open, such a text file can be uploaded to restore the kinematic within the calculator.
Elastic Scattering
... can be calculated by selecting "elastic" in the upper right particle list. Then W will be fixed to the target mass and the angles θ and φ become affectless. The Eex. property can still be used to calculate excited states of the target nucleus.
